Striped Bass & Bluefish, Inshore
Cod, Haddock and Pollack Offshore
Early June and into July the Merrimack and Hampton River estuaries are prime areas for those in search of Striped Bass (stripers).  A wide array of  methods are employed to land ‘keeper’ bass and/or trophy fish. In late July, the bluefish show up to provide anglers with some of the most exciting sport fishing of the season. The choppers (small blues) usually make an appearance first.  August through Ocober will produce  fish in the ten to fifteen pound range.

For those fishermen who prefer venturing offshore, the Gulf of Maine is well known to be the premier area for ground fish. Most notable of the species are: Cod, Haddock, and Pollack. When fishing Jefferies Ledge one never knows what will come over the side of the boat, but it is usually fun to catch and almost always will make a great meal. July and August is prime time but deep water all summer and fall will satisfy the diehard bottom fisherman.

Families with youngsters have always enjoyed the school mackerel "out front’, as well as the schoolie stripers inside the river or on the flats. Jigging and chunking always puts  a smile on a young angler’s face.
